Weekend Warriors

October 1, 2012 by Britton_Riley

It’s my favorite time of the week.

The sounds of Sunday echo through my home.

Tyler is in his room playing some video game where he talks out loud to someone I’m not sure is there.

At first, those sounds worried me. I knew he was alone in there, playing his game but I could also hear him instructing the characters on where to go, what to do, and who to shoot. One day I noticed that he was wearing a headset. Once I discovered that there was actually a real human that he was talking to via that headset, who was also playing the game I felt much more at ease about his mental state!

My mister is on the couch, switching between golf and Nascar. Depending on which channel he has flipped to he is either yelling “You suck! I hope you run out of gas!” or “GET IN THE HOLE!!”

Sir Higgins has lost his squeaker ball. It has rolled under the couch and he is desperately howling and barking for someone to please reach under and get it out.

Yup, these are the sweet sounds of Sunday!

My mister earned his spot on the couch because he worked VERY hard this morning. He was up and at ‘em early, pressure washing the house. I wouldn’t have thought that a home only a few months old could get so dirty on the outside! Luckily my mister got right down to work and started scrubbing this morning. He scrubbed and scrubbed all of the places he could reach with the ladder, a long broom, and his pressure washer.

Then came the scary part. He got on the roof. I’m not going to lie, I had visions of Clark Griswold.

He won’t admit it, but I think he was holding on to those shutters for dear life!

I just held my breath…… And the ladder.

Luckily we had no Clark Griswold mishaps and my mister has no broken bones.

….and he made dinner tonight!

Yell at those drivers and putters all you want, honey!

We bought a new chair for our living room last week and Friday we brought it home, along with a new rug.

My mister says he likes the new chair, but think it looks like it wants to eat him. We got a big kick out of that, especially since it made me think of Chairy from Pee Wee’s Playhouse. And then I thought of the fact that I have teased my mister before by telling him I think he looks like Pee Wee Herman, (only a far more handsome version, of course) which made me laugh even harder!

I asked my mister to pose on the arm of the chair, like Pee Wee so we could see a true side-by-side. He’s such a good sport! See what you think, but I say the likeness is truly remarkable.

I have more pictures of the house to share! Things are slowly starting to come together.

This is the new rug I told you about. The picture behind the couch reminds me of a day that my mom, my grandmother, and I were together in Savannah. I just loved it and thought it was so soothing and reminded me of precious memories. I knew I had to incorporate it in my new home.

Here is one angle of the kitchen. We need to get a rug for under the kitchen table. I LOVE my center island! Lots of room for baking!

There’s the other angle of the kitchen. My favorite room, for sure!! Plenty of room for baking!
Speaking of baking…..
I made 2 Pumpkin Apple Pies yesterday. It was the first time I’d ever tried this recipe.

The pie was delicious, but I knew it would be when I was cooking up the apples….I wish you could smell them!

My other clue it was going to be good was the way I was sloppin’ & droppin’ everything. It seemed I was slinging pumpkin everywhere!

Every time I bake, I think of my mom. I will never forget the time she said to me “Britton, this is a ‘clean-as-you-go’ kitchen.” So, that is how I do things. Because that’s the way she taught me! I clean and wipe as I go and I never have a disaster! She’s so smart!

All weekend I’ve been craving a beer, a bottle of wine, a stiff drink….anything! I have wanted it SO bad! What harm would one drink do? Then today I felt nauseated. It gave me a little reminder of what a hangover feels like.

I’m glad I’ve stayed strong!
